AFP Construction is a multi-discipline site clearance, excavation, demolition and specialist building contractor based in Bishopton near Glasgow.
Over the years, the business has developed particular experience in clearing and preparing complex and high-hazard sites, while continuing to support clients across construction, civil engineering, environmental contracting and plant hire.

Fred and Mary's children both became part of AFP. Kevin now runs the business day to day, while Fiona continues the family involvement as Company Secretary.
From Fred & Mary to the Second Generation.
AFP grew from the determination of one couple into the established family business it is today.
Fred Builds His Construction Experience
Albert, best known as Fred, Parker moved to the UK from Southern Ireland in the 1950s and worked with a number of companies in the construction industry. He met Mary in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.
Fred and Mary married in 1963 before moving to Central Scotland as Fred's work took him across the country as a Site Agent.
A Family Business Begins
Fred and Mary made the decision to branch out on their own and formed AFP Construction (Bishopton) Ltd. The early years required both of them to work closely together as they established and grew the business.
Mary played a central role behind the scenes, bringing strong bookkeeping and organisational knowledge to the company while Fred led operations and construction activity.
Building the Fleet and the Business
By June 1979 the company had begun to gather real momentum. Fred was able to invest in a new Bedford truck, a new JCB, compressors and other equipment, marking an important stage in the development of AFP.
Machinery would remain a defining part of the business for decades to come.
Kevin Joins Fred on the Ground
Kevin joined the family business after leaving school and learned the industry directly from his father. Fred mentored him over many years, passing on the practical knowledge and judgement built over a lifetime in construction.
Kevin later became a Director and increasingly took responsibility for the day-to-day running of AFP as Fred moved into semi-retirement.
Fiona Joins the Family Business
Fiona, Fred and Mary's daughter, joined the family company and was mentored by her mother in the day-to-day office operation of AFP. Mary's bookkeeping and organisational knowledge became an important part of what was passed into the second generation.
Fiona went on to play an integral role in developing the office team and continues to support the family business as Company Secretary alongside her brother Kevin.
A New Direction for the Fleet
Fred and Kevin's decision to expand into plant hire was realised in 2016. From there the machinery fleet developed rapidly, becoming a major part of AFP's capability and giving the business greater flexibility across a wide range of projects.
The Family Business Continues
Fred remained involved in major company decisions throughout semi-retirement until his death in 2018. The advice and standards he passed on continue to influence how AFP operates today.
Kevin now runs the business day to day, continuing the company founded by his parents and carrying the family emphasis on quality, value and dependable service into the second generation.

Second Generation
Kevin Parker
Kevin has worked with AFP since leaving school in 1985. Mentored by his father Fred, he became a Director in the 1990s and took over the day-to-day running of the business as Fred moved into semi-retirement.
Today Kevin leads AFP and remains closely involved in the practical and commercial direction of the company.

Fiona Parker-Hedley
Fiona joined the family company and was mentored by her mother Mary in the day-to-day office operation of AFP.
She has played an integral role in developing the office team and continues to support the business as Company Secretary.
